Szombathely is located at the foot of the Alps, on the western edge of Pannonia. It was founded by Roman Emperor Claudius in 43 AD under the name Colonia Claudia Savaria. The city developed quickly along the Amber Road trade route, and soon Savaria became the center of Upper Pannonia and the imperial cult of the province. It possesses extremely rich historical and cultural traditions. The city is characterized by the multitude of festivals organized here (Savaria Dance Competition, International Bartók Festival, Wind Orchestra Meeting, Savaria Carnival) and international fairs.

Kőszeg
Kőszeg is a settlement with a sub-Alpine climate located at the foot of the Alps. In recent decades, it has become famous not only for its extremely rich historical traditions and historical buildings preserved in an almost intact state but also for the honesty boxes (self-service stalls) that are perhaps unique in Hungary. The goods displayed on the street and left unguarded also prove that public safety is good in Kőszeg, and people are trustworthy and hospitable.
Ság Hill, Celldömölk Located next to the settlement of Celldömölk, which is only 19 km from Sárvár, is the most spectacular volcanic mountain remnant in the area. The volcano that created the 279-meter-high Ság Hill erupted about 5 million years ago. Visitors can learn about the geological events today on a nature trail. On the steeper slopes of the dual truncated cone of Ság Hill, which rises from the plain, volcanic tuff ejected from craters, lava benches, and vent eruptions can be studied on the vertical rock faces. A nature trail guides visitors into the world of rocks and geological events. Its most spectacular part is the lava plug that fills the interior of the central crater.
